Every year Tell Them hosts Bee Day – a day at the the South Carolina State House for people like you and me. Throughout the year, the men and women of Tell Them lobby our state representatives and host forums all over the state to keep us informed, safe, and healthy when it comes to our bodies and our rights. On Bee Day, we all go down to the state house and tell our reps what we think and want. We learn about the legislative process, and we become our own advocates for sex education and reproductive health. And most of all, we remind them: You Don’t Own Me. You represent me.
This year, we meet on March 16 – just three short weeks away. So, listen to 2016’s Bee Day song, “You Don’t Own Me,” made famous by Leslie Gore and now made South Carolina-famous by Jade Janay Blocker. Practice along with Jade, Representative Gilda Cobb-Hunter, Senator Katrina Shealy, and folks from Tell Them, Auntie Bellum, and Girls Rock Columbia, and be ready to sing it on the state house steps after a day of empowering activities on March 16. See you there!
Many thanks to Josh Rose of Elephant Room Media who was, as always, a charming and skilled director and guided us through the (weirdly difficult) lip-syncing process.
