Our attempt to breathe life into the legend focused, as is our wont, on the experience of Mrs. Claus. Who is the woman behind the man behind the beard? We know she must have more going on than reindeer tending and keeping the yule log burning while the Mr. is away delivering toys.
We enlisted two Columbia, SC talents, Kayla Cahill, theatre teacher and Trustus ensemble member, and Daniel Machado, senior designer at True Matter LLC and independent songwriter, to imagine a Christmas night at the North Pole, when the work of the day has been done.
T’was the Night After Christmas…
It’s always nice to have your honey home. Looks like Mr. Claus is going to warm his snow-bitten bones with a warm beverage. His eyes—how they twinkle! His dimples how merry!
A little too merry.
Twas the night after christmas, all the gifts were delivered
Santa toasted his work while Mrs. Claus shivered
Now they could rest, her honey was home!
As he pulled out his flask to warm his tired bones.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to work
Snoring by the hearth; he passed out, what a jerk.
