Turbulent times need healing sounds, and Richmond, Virginia-based indie folk band Lobo Marino have that and more to offer. Their new video for “Celebrate” is a simple, beautiful, and maybe even haunting vision of artist expression and collectivism, and it’s a call for harmony and balance, unity and new voices for change. The group is made up of activists, deeply dedicated to causes ranging from social justice to environmentalism, and, with this new collaboration, they’re searching to connect those forces to the artistic vitality in their community.
From Lobo Marino:
“‘Celebrate’ is a call for humanity to end this era a destruction and put our collective energy into creating a time of healing and restoration. Instead of investing in war and our continual habits of abusing of the earth and each other, let us heal ourselves, and seek harmony and balance with nature. This is actually the second time we have recorded this song. It is a much more melancholy remix and conveys the sense that we need to all celebrate what we have, even though times can be difficult.”
The video’s director is Keagan Anfuso, previously of the Art Institute of Jacksonville and an award-winning queer female filmmaker. She’s been described as a “visionary” in the up-and-coming indie-queer music scene, you can find her featured in publications like BITCH and Homoground, and she also made an award-winning horror film, Wolf’s Museum of Mystery.
