Thank you for the lesson in civility. I’m sure it was jarring when a rich, powerful white woman was asked to leave a restaurant. I’m sure it was also a bit confusing when a woman of color had the gall to suggest that maybe that action wasn’t totally out of line. Just a quick question, before I start studying up on how to be nicer to bigots. Exactly, in days, how long after your friends and cohorts lynched effigies of the previous president, did you develop this overarching concern for having a civil discourse? Was it before or after you told your buddies Hillary couldn’t lead the country if she couldn’t even keep her husband satisfied? I’m dying to know.
Thank you, again, for the lengthy lecture on family values. Which page of the Family Values Handbook gives instructions for how to best have armed and uniformed strangers forcibly separate children from their parents? Is there an appendix on how to comfort those children who have no idea where their parents are or when they’ll see them again? That would be nice to have right now.
I deeply appreciate the primer on small government. Exactly where, in the small government outline, can I find the section on how to justify the slew of laws requiring women to undergo multiple unnecessary procedures, endure useless waiting periods, and now face being lied to by phony professionals just to make decisions about her own body? Just curious.
I’m grateful for your passionate explanation of how you deeply value life — every life, even those unborn. Please, let me know what you personally have done to help ensure the sick, the elderly, and children don’t die of easily preventable problems like starvation, or say an inability to pay for medical treatment? You contributed ten bucks to the GoFundMe for your sister-in-law’s cousin’s kid with leukemia? Good job, bro.
Thanks, again, that was quite the dissertation on how people from largely Muslim countries pose a serious threat to our safety. Does your deep and voluminous Encyclopedia of How to Best Protect Americans offer any suggestions for the surge of white, male terrorists who have been behind a number of mass shootings? Or how to address gun violence in general? Domestic violence? No? How odd. Maybe the editor left those pages out.
I sure do appreciate your mile long Facebook post about how we shouldn’t pay for moochers and lowlifes while veterans go homeless. May I see the citations for how you voted in the previous three elections and how each of those candidates voted when it came to expanding veterans’ resources? Silly me, your argument seemed so well researched. I just thought you’d have that data handy.
Your argument that the Christian way of life is under attack is very compelling. Help me out for a second: name five — any five — serious contenders for any state level office or higher who were avowed atheists or agnostics. Take your time, I’ll wait.
You seem very concerned that the women in your life might be attacked if trans individuals are able to easily access restrooms. I appreciate that concern, I really do. Would you like some resources on the sexual harassment and assault issues in the US Armed Forces or across college campuses? No? Not even some quick statistics? Maybe a link? Oh… okay, never mind.
Oh, and to address your earlier concern, you’ll have your all-important civility when you stop advocating for demonization and dehumanization of innocent people. You’ll get it when you stop treating people of color, immigrants, women, and LGBTQ individuals like they’re somehow less than human. In short, you’ll get my civility when you fucking earn it.
Best of luck and thanks again.
